The Black Con Takeover
July does not open quietly this year. It opens in Houston, at DreamCon, the number one culturally relevant convention in this space, and the clearest proof yet that our audience is not a niche waiting to be discovered. It is a movement that has already arrived.
Consider the arc. DreamCon started as a small convening of 600 creators. This year it is 30,000 plus, a full-blown pillar of the community that grew because it filled a gap the mainstream cons never took seriously. That kind of growth does not happen by accident and it does not happen off marketing spend. It happens when a room finally gets built for people who were tired of being an afterthought in everyone else's building. The scoreboard went from 600 to 30,000 for one reason: the demand was always there, and someone finally answered it.
The lineup this year makes the point louder. DreamCon runs July 10th to 12th and features A-list talent like Issa Rae, Wale, Leon Thomas, and Boondocks creator Carl Jones. That is not a random guest list. It is a snapshot of where Black culture, anime, gaming, music, and film all overlap, on one stage, in one weekend, in front of an audience that shows up for all of it at once. When talent of that caliber commits to a stage, they are not doing a favor. They are following the audience.
Here is what I want the brands and partners reading this to sit with. DreamCon is not a reminder that this audience exists. It is proof, at scale, that the audience exists and is hungry for more ways to connect. The brands that treat that hunger as a real market, and show up to feed it with genuine value instead of a logo, are the ones this community will remember. The rest will spend the next few years wondering how they missed a room that grew fifty times over in plain sight.

Hot Skull Crosses Over into the Gaming & Anime Scene

This article discusses adult tobacco products. Tobacco use carries health risks and is regulated for adults of legal smoking age. 18+.
Story Summary
Hot Skull has spent the last few years earning its place in rooms that already move culture: hip-hop, skateboarding, street fashion, and the smoke shops that anchor the South and the East Coast. That footprint is exactly where a grabba brand that respects its audience should be, and it built something real there, credibility you cannot buy and cannot fake. But those rooms share more DNA with gaming and anime than most brands realize. The same fans lining up for a drop or a shop are the ones deep in a raid at 2am and first in line for a new season. Hot Skull is not leaving the culture it came from. It is following that culture into the next room, where the crossover between street, gaming, and anime is already happening, just without a brand that speaks all three languages at once.
