Trend of the Week

The Blerd Con Takeover

July does not open quietly this year. It opened in Houston, at DreamCon, the number one culturally relevant convention in this space, and the clearest proof yet that our audience is not a niche waiting to be discovered.

DreamCon started as a small convening of 600 creators. This year it is 45,000+, a full-blown pillar of the community that grew because it filled a gap the mainstream cons never took seriously. That kind of growth does not happen by accident and it does not happen off marketing spend. It happens when a room finally gets built for people who were tired of being an afterthought in everyone else's building. The scoreboard went from 600 to 45,000+ for one reason: the demand was always there, and someone finally answered it.

The lineup this year made the point louder. DreamCon ran from July 10th to 12th and featured A-list talent like Issa Rae, Wale, Leon Thomas, and Boondocks creator Carl Jones. That is not a random guest list. It is a snapshot of where Black culture, anime, gaming, music, and film all overlap, on one stage, in one weekend, in front of an audience that shows up for all of it at once. When talent of that caliber commits to a stage, they are not doing a favor. They are following the audience.

Here is what I want the brands and partners reading this to sit with. DreamCon is not a reminder that this audience exists. It is proof, at scale, that the audience exists and is hungry for more ways to connect. The brands that treat that hunger as a real market, and show up to feed it with genuine value instead of a logo, are the ones this community will remember. The rest will spend the next few years wondering how they missed a room that grew fifty times over in plain sight.

Stay tuned for our full DreamCon recap, coming soon!

Currency Flowing in the Cxmmunity

🏆 100 Thieves: $600,000 for the Esports World Cup VALORANT title: The org's first international trophy validates the culture-first model. Signal: identity-led brands can still win the sport outright, not just the merch drop.

A Labor of Love

🎬 Infernozilla: Video Editor / Short-Form Content Creator (Remote): Infernozilla is a Dallas-based gaming marketing agency with 240+ studio clients and a wall of awards, and they want a short-form editor to cut content for real game launches. One of the cleanest creative foot-in-the-door roles on the board right now.

🤝 Packsify: Community & Partner Manager (Remote): Own community and partner relationships at a growing gaming brand. If you live in Discords and know how to turn a fanbase into a movement, this is the seat. Community roles like this trend around $44K to $69K per year in the current market.

🎯 Riot Games: Esports Events Coordinator, APAC (Remote-friendly): Supports live esports event operations across the APAC region. A strong foot-in-the-door for live-ops and event production, and one of 24 July-dated Riot roles currently open.

Hidden Gem: Avatar Legends - The Fighting Game

Gameplay Group International is an Orlando-based studio founded in 2025 by Victor Lugo (Founder & Chief Creative Officer) and Philip Mayes. The origin story is the hook: when Maximum Entertainment cancelled Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game and laid off the team, the developers bought the rights and finished it themselves. The studio is majority Black, Woman, and Minority-owned, with a team across the US, Australia, Brazil, and Europe, and staff who are veterans of Killer Instinct and Them's Fightin' Herds. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a 1v1 hand-drawn 2D fighter with 12 launch characters, rollback netcode, and full cross-play, hitting consoles and PC July 23, 2026, with a Year One DLC roadmap shown at an EVO 2026 panel in late June. That "layoff turned into ownership, cancelled game turned into a launch" arc is exactly the CXM Hidden Gem energy.
